Home Economics is an elective that is slowly becoming irrelevant in many schools, however, it's a very formative course and almost essential for teens.
Foods studies is a part of Home Economics that has to be something that the student is really passionate about to take the course. It is an aspect of Home Economics that is beloved by eight graders who are newly introduced to the subject because of how fun it is, but not as something they typically would want to pursue.
Textiles is the other half of Home Economics, along with Food Studies. It focuses on the fundamentals of sewing, clothing, fashion, and fabrics in general.
Ms. Vining, local Home Economics teacher, shares her 2 cents on building an environment that lets her students flourish creatively, both in Textiles and Food Studies.
