The general aspects of textiles in high school

In the Textiles room, the first thing to notice is all of the sewing machines. Of course, this piece of machinery is essential in the process of learning how to work with fabrics, as there is need for efficiency and technicality in the school environment.

Many things can be intimidating to newly beginning seamsters, which Ms. Vining
accommodates by running through all the different materials like the diverse fabrics, threads, and yarn that she has in her Textiles room.

The embarkment to this course is usually a rough one with grade 8s, as the
digital space they've grown up in is full of judging and mocking, while said behaviour is encouraged. Because of this, Ms. Vining tries to build an environment where students can feel confident to try something new that they might be bad at, to open their horizons without the fear of scrutiny or laughter. To have fun with the wondrous world of textiles, instead of being made fun of.

One of the most common entryways to textiles is embroidery, as that is what kicks off the Grade 8 Textiles class. They learn the differences between regular thread, embroidery floss, working with the different resources available, and experimenting with this new form of creation being presented to them.

The importance of Textiles is that these young students can learn how to repair their own clothing, create new pieces of clothing, know how to deal with certain problems in fabric, which they need when they get older, avoiding paying things where unnecessary. In Textiles, self-expression through clothing is discovered.

Textiles is born out of both necessity and passion, creatively making practical products that embody their creator, with fun fabrics, colours, patterns, and designs that only a dedicated seamster would take to making. It blends the culture of fashion with the culture of passion, what more could one possibly want from a medium?
