METAL MACHINERY AND THE DANGERS

Wood and Metal Work are often the two electives that are the most dangerous or pain-inducing courses that a student could take, mainly because metal is tough to work with to a degree, so there are various machines and power tools that are used for different things while making a product.
There are several safety precautions that students must always take in order to stay safe in these respective shops, and they are often quizzed before using the mechanisms to make sure they understand and respect the guidelines set in place to keep them safe from the numerous amounts of operators. These operators almost always have some sort of blade, which can be hazardous when not paying attention, so the students are urged to put the precautions into practice before utilising any of them.
Luckily enough, there has never been any serious injuries within these shops at Palmer, as students have been cautious enough to follow all of the safety guidelines. However, as minor mistakes happen, countless students have gotten a small cut or injury on their fingers, which is accounted for by a band-aid.
Despite these warnings, metal work is actually often done with tools operated by hand, which gives students more confidence to try things as they have more control.

NO INCIDENTS HAVE OCCURED
While there is opportunities to injure yourself when working in these respective fields, it's important to know that they do not define your skill and value at these prospects. When you are confident, your actions become more precise and assured, which leads to less chances of getting hurt by the machines, so it's important to stay calm and operate the mechanisms slowly and carefully. As stated, students have never been seriously injured by these machines at Palmer, so it's safe as long as you follow the safety measures!
