Multi-talents in music

While there are many singular instrument roles in bands, musicians very seldom play just one instrument. A Grade 10 Band student at Palmer, Timmy, mentioned in an interview that he is able to play 4 different instruments: the piano, the trumpet, the bells, and the drum kit. He can even teach others in some of these areas, and improving on his current instrument of focus, the trumpet. The Music teacher at Palmer, Ms. Chen, is also multi-faceted in her musical endeavours, as she would need to be to teach Band. Though not exactly specified the number, she can play all the basic instruments in a concert band, and has taught classes internationally. Additionally, they've both spent the majority of their lives playing and discovering new aspects in music and have learnt these instruments over the course of their music journey.

The reason for this appears to be the fact that these artists are so passionate about music that they want to gain a wider musical perspective, as well as the fun of it to learn how these instruments play, differ, and sound from one another. The passion is evident in all musicians, when interviewed, Timmy had said "If there's a choice between this [music] and something else, I will always choose music." The sheer pull that music has on people creates a desire to learn the intricacies of how it blends and layers with all the different sounds within it. Ms. Chen had also mentioned how deeply she fell in love with music when her passion had sparked during 8th grade due to her extremely passionate Band teacher, and is now the only thing she wants to pursue for the rest of her life.
