Concert bands are common in a lot of high schools currently, and it's unionizing to see your school sonically represented in many very talented performances. But why is this so, and how does it feel when you're the one playing the music?
The many different instruments that make up a band are what really creates the sense of depth and layers within the music. Having one role in a band is playing as one part, to become a part of something greater and bigger than yourself. There is a sense of responsibility to keep up with the rest of the band and uphold the flow of the melody together, as to not disrupt the harmonies being performed.

Having friends within the band just adds to the sentimentality of the experience. You get to grow musically together and work with one another to build a beautiful and deeply layered song, with the fruit of your labour finally being recognized when you perform it together. Sharing music with your favourite people is a lighthearted feeling that strengthens your friendship.
It also strengthens your idea of how they play and how you sound together, creating a larger understanding of the different techniques people use. The diversity and point of view gained from this kind of camaraderie is so important and amplified within a band setting, and overall advancing you far in your musical journey.

A band, as a unit, creates layers of rhythms and notes filled with the humanity and emotion of the song. To share that with the other members of your musical family holds so much significance and solidifies the identity and soul of a band, unionizing all the different aspects played by different people. This is the meaning of a band, and what makes it so binding and special.
